Ways To Borrow and Steal

I think about a time when life was simpler than now

I waste a day-time, a night-time, a good-time

a life-time

and still I haven’t learned how.

Battle-lines are being drawn by preachers and poets today

come on little sisters and brothers of others

let’s join hands there’s still time to pray

Starry nights and different sunsets from Malibu to F-L-A

All the ways to borrow and steal

dreams we feel and conceal

though it always comes down to repay

There’s the road

(Light-beamed for you)

What a load

(we can carry more)

Stories lost and told

(there’s more coming)

for the rest of your days

You stood by the river and watched as they pushed my Soul in

you felt me drowning in sorrow

getting deeply over-borrowed with time I would never regain

. . . and all that pain

What is shame? (You’ll know soon)

Share this blame (He answered that too)

for the rest of your days

Battle lines are being drawn by the preachers and poets today

come on little sisters and brothers of others

let’s join hands there’s still time to pray

(take my hand there’s still time to pray)

Starry nights and different sunsets from Malibu to F-L-A

all the ways to borrow and steal dream we feel and conceal

though it always comes down to repay

There’s the road (Light beamed for you)

What a load (we can carry more)

Stories lost and told (there’s more coming)

for the rest of your days

Battle lines are being drawn by the preachers and poets today

it’s your war zone, your I-Phone, your good stone, your monotone

your toys always give you away

Free money, and honey, and skies suddenly sunny

. . . so, come on little sister and brothers of others  . . .

Come on all you Angels

come on all you Lovers

rip off all your covers, forgiveness is all yours today

then join hands and dance time away
